Statement
My work is a continuous exploration of form and colour. I build soft clay slabs into shapes that express the material’s malleability, and contrast that with sharp edges and severe cuts incised into the solid block forms. The surface patina is built up using multiple layers of coloured engobes and dry glaze. Each piece is fired numerous times until the desired depth of surface colour and texture is reached.
As with all my work, these pieces are experimental, each piece a moment in a lifetime of exploration.

Waymarks - 2025
I am using a different set of abstract symbols to explore how one might identify a route through the landscape, city (or life). These pieces have a slightly mysterious quality to them as the symbols have been covered by a shroud of clay and are not immediately recognisable and the surface is treated with Graphite; it’s sheen adding to the curious quality of the piece.

Urbanesque - 2025
I am using abstract forms and symbols to explore the forms and mood of the urban environment. The pieces are formal, slab built with sections cut out, moved and other pieces added. Parts of the surfaces area are worked in relief, and the colour is built up using layers of engobe and dry glaze.
